UK Samba mixes traditional Brazilian rhythms with reggae, dance, swing and drum'n'bass to create a unique blend of infectious carnival rhythms.

Started in 2000, Fine City Samba (formerly Norwich Samba) now has over 50 members of all ages and backgrounds. The band uses a range of percussion instruments that produce the typically exciting sound of the Rio Carnival with a UK twist. The band and its dancers rehearse every Monday evening at Marlpit Community Centre, Norwich where new members are always welcome.

Fine City Samba gives vibrant and exciting performances at local carnivals and events. This summer they can be seen playing an infectious mix of Brazilian rhythms and modern beats at events across East Anglia and beyond. The band is also available for hire at private events and our Musical Directors are available to run workshops for education or team building.

Our rehearsals are at the Marlpit Community Centre on Monday evenings from 7:30-10:00pm. You are most welcome to come and join us – 16+, no experience necessary, all kit provided – just turn up and have a go or email Martine at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Drummers and Dancers Beginners Courses – May 2026

We are very excited to announce that we are running Fine City Samba beginners classes for both drummers and dancers, starting Monday 18th May 2026, with the aim of joining us for the Lord Mayors Celebrations on 11th July.

Drummers

Led by our experienced musical director, Hej, you will have the opportunity to try out different instruments, learn some of Fine City Samba’s rhythms and breaks, and become part of the UK samba community.

The 6-week course will run Monday evenings from 6:30–7:45pm at Marlpit Community Centre, Hellesdon Road, Norwich NR6 5EG. Starting on the 18th of May, classes will be at a cost of £45, or £30 for unwaged for the 6 week course. Beginners will also be welcome to join or watch the main band rehearsal from 7:45-10pm.

All welcome, no experience necessary, and all instruments are provided, age 16+.

Dancers

Also starting on 18th May, this inclusive 6-week course will be run by our dance leader, Faye, from 6:30-8:00pm. The first 5 sessions will be held at St Matthews Church, Telegraph Lane West, Norwich NR1 4JA, and for the final session the dancers will join the band at the Marlpit Community Centre for the full experience. All ages (under 16s must be accompanied) and abilities are welcome. Classes will be at a cost of £30, or £20 for unwaged for the 6-week course.
